The SpareOne emergency phone is designed to last when the power goes out — for up to 15 years.
The speed with which smartphone batteries run out of juice can be a nuisance — or worse, if you need to make an emergency call.

The year-old SpareOne handset puts battery life out of mind, with a design that uses a single AA battery to power the phone until you need it — for up to 15 years. Newly released versions now incorporate geolocation, helping emergency services personnel pinpoint your exact location. Emergency calls go through with the press of the big emergency services button. There’s no calling plan required, but paired with a SIM card, the $100 device also provides up to 10 hours of talk time on that one replaceable battery. Smartphone users can set up auto text reply on their primary device to let friends and family know they can only be reached by calling, while they’ve swapped out to the SpareOneThe $100 fee is pricey, considering that any charged cellphone in working order can place an emergency call, even if there’s no call plan attached to it. But a spokeswoman for Spare One says the phone’s advantage is in its extended battery life, as well as in its ability to function in a wider range of temperatures than a typical smartphone, making it ideal for travelers heading off the beaten path. (Depending on where you go, however, you may need two SpareOnes. There are different versions that function with different GSM networks used in various parts of the world. In a few areas, notably Japan, the phone won’t work at all.)

Comment from Smartphonebay.net staff:
CES always inspire the market to get more useful gadget. Like this one, mobile phone that rely their power on AA battery. It is simple but no one try to give this mix and match before. It is really amazing that user will not be running out of power easily because users can get a fully powered AA battery in any convenient store or wall-mart. It's a nice idea anyway and Smartphonebay.net staff shows a "LIKE" to this new Mix & Match type of new product!!
